JES MISSION
Johnstonville Elementary School is a positive learning community where children become competent, creative builders of their future, exhibit outstanding character and a love of learning. The skills and knowledge they attain at JES will carry them forward to become successful, well-rounded citizens.
VISION
1. ACADEMICS - Provide educational opportunities to ensure high academic achievement by all students as measured by national, state and local standards.
- Students, teachers, parents and administration are held to high expectations for student academic achievement.
- Teachers provide outstanding instruction that addresses different learning styles and levels of learners.
- Teachers receive professional development and have collaboration time to effectively implement research-based instructional strategies.
- All children meet or exceed rigorous academic standards through multiple measures.
- Students who are below grade level are provided timely interventions to meet their instructional needs.
- Strategic planning and opportunities are in place to promote the development of gifted children.
- Students are capable of critical thinking, problem solving, and higher order thinking skills.
- Students will have sufficient, uninterrupted time to be instructed appropriately in each core subject.
2. WELL-ROUNDED EDUCATION - Ensure a well-rounded education for all students that develops cultural understanding, creativity, technical skills, life skills and physical wellness.
- Students receive a broad-based education with integrated learning across the curriculum and applications to real life.
- Students are involved in projects, service, competitions and extracurricular activities.
- Students build an understanding of our culture and others, including historical and artistic components, enabling them to interact well in society.
- Students participate in the visual and performing arts with emphasis on the process and the development of creative expression.
- Students acquire research and communication skills to be able to function in a rapidly changing, technological world.
- Students obtain life skills, including a work ethic, personal organization, ability to work with others and personal responsibility.
- Students gain skills for a healthy lifestyle, including physical fitness, nutrition and the prevention of substance abuse.
3. SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT - Provide a safe, positive and supportive environment in which students are able to thrive.
- Staff model, instruct and guide students in the development of character and a positive, can-do attitude.
- Staff focuses on encouragement and positive recognition to promote self-esteem and appropriate behavior.
- Staff, students and families strive to be welcoming, friendly and respectful to others.
- All members of the school community stand together to guarantee a bully-free school.
- Staff and students are motivated to excel and have high attendance in school.
- School rules, procedures and expectations are consistent.
4. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT - Educating children is a partnership that involves the active participation of students, staff and parents and the community in the educational process.
5. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY - Financial resources are prioritized to ensure the efficient use of staff, facilities, equipment and services to optimize school performance and achieve the school vision.
- Resources are aligned to support the school vision, with emphasis on the academic success of all children.
- A plan is in place to maintain and improve facilities, providing a source of pride for staff, students and the community.
