About Johnstonville School
Description
Johnstonville School is an independent public school located four miles east of Susanville, CA. The enrollment consists of 240 elementary students in grades kindergarten through eighth. Johnstonville is a diverse socio-economic community.
This campus also includes an additional 20 students in the Preschool and Infant/Toddler Program. Johnstonville School has an excellent reputation throughout the county. There is currently a waiting list of students from other schools who would like to attend Johnstonville School. Students are accepted on a first come, first served basis if space is available.

Special Events
Johnstonville students do very well in both the local and state competitions involving Spelling Bees, Academic Olympics, and Geography Bees. Each year there are 7th and 8th grade students who qualify to take the college SATs and School and College Ability Tests. Eligible students may enroll in extension classes at Johns Hopkins University, Sacramento State University, or Lassen Community College.
Sports
7th and 8th grade students may participate in flag football, basketball, drill team, and volleyball. Athletic competition is held between the local elementary schools. Cross country is open for all students.
Campus
The school's campus is well maintained. Vandalism is very low. The school's main building was recently modernized at a cost of $475,000.00 without any increase in local taxes.
Recognition
For the 2000-2001 school year, Johnstonville School met the API benchmark at 810 and qualified for an award. Johnstonville API scores have ranged between 767-810.
